Community Outreach

Letters to the Editor:
Two letters to the editor were published on April 20, in Voices Newspaper, and April 21st, in the Waterbury Republican American Newspaper. I wrote them to educate residents of Southbury and nearby towns about the negative impact humans have on the Pomperaug River, followed by a short explanation of the strong water quality. At the end of both letters to the editor, I provide a few ways you can help preserve the watershed.
Earth Day Fair:
On April 23rd, I attended an Earth Day Fair that was hosted in Woodbury by my mentor, Carol Haskins. I made a poster board with information on H2KNOW that included the problem and solution and experimental data of organization. I was also provided with a watershed model in which I used to teach children about pollution and runoff. All the children seemed to be very interested in the model and learned about what they can do to help protect the watershed!
Signs Around Town:
I placed three signs around Southbury to educate residents of simple steps they can take to help protect the watershed. These signs were placed at the Bent of the River, Ewald Park, and The O&G Park. These areas are heavily traveled by the residents of Southbury. There is a QR-code on the sign so residents are able to access my website if they would like to learn more.
