Experimental Data

This page is dedicated to the Experimental Data that was done in order to make H2KNOW possible. It provided me with information that contributed to my background knowledge on watersheds and water quality and what I can do to improve it.

Macroinvertebrates are well known indicators of pollution in rivers because of their well known pollution tolerances, limited mobility, wide range of feeding habits, varied life spans and dependence on land environment around the stream. The macroinvertebrate test that was conducted in the Pomperaug River showed that the water quality of the river was excellent, based on the macroinvertebrates found inside the stream.

Dissolved Oxygen Levels are well known indicators of water quality because Macroinvertebrates breathe oxygen that is dissolved in water. In the immature stage of the macroinvertebrates' lifespan, many species require high levels of dissolved oxygen in order to survive.
